Running involves taking a first step forward. Whether you are a beginner or an elite athlete lining up at the Olympics, that principle remains the same. You have to start somewhere.
Between us we have a combined experience of nearly 50 years, which has included both personal running experience, administration and coaching. Our involvement with the sport of athletics has been from beginner level all the way up to international. That literally means helping beginners complete their first kilometer to lining up on an international start line.
There are several websites which give free advice on how to train. However, being successful at what you want to achieve from running is a bit more complex than that. Experience has taught us that no two people are exactly the same and that any training programme needs to be adaptable. We have also learnt that with training the body changes and what was not a problem before suddenly becomes a serious one. So we have learnt to adapt training so that we try to address problems before they happen and that as one goes one reassesses.
It is also an unfortunate fact that many ideas about training which were believed to be gospel 20 or 30 years ago are no longer considered valid. The advice you will get from old-hands is, in some cases, really old and outdated. We continuously update our training and understanding of what works. Some of the principles have remained the same, others have had to be adapted.
We have had experience of getting absolute beginners wanting to finish their first Two Oceans Half Marathon, coaching at schools and at university level, all the way to involvement at international level. We also understand how much time people have available and will adapt programmes accordingly.
Whether the aim is to lose weight or adopt a more healthy lifestyle or compete at the Olympics, the principles are the same (although the time and effort is obviously vastly different).
Apart from running we can also offer assistance with coaching in most specialised track & field events and also with development of children at primary school age. Please contact us separately if you want assistance with any of these.
